The registers are referred to with the letters assigned to them by
Zilog. In addition <samp><span class="command">as</span></samp> recognizes ‘<samp><span class="samp">ixl</span></samp>’ and
‘<samp><span class="samp">ixh</span></samp>’ as the least and most significant octet in ‘<samp><span class="samp">ix</span></samp>’, and
similarly ‘<samp><span class="samp">iyl</span></samp>’ and ‘<samp><span class="samp">iyh</span></samp>’ as parts of ‘<samp><span class="samp">iy</span></samp>’.
